How Music Travels: The Evolution of Western Dance Music

How Music Travels: The Evolution of Western Dance Music

The simple but interactive map called How Music Travels [thomson.co.uk] reveals the evolution of western dance music over the last 100 years. More specifically, the map shows the exact birth time and birth place of each music style (within a 5-year period), and how it influenced the ones that followed.

Although 'non-dance' music genres which influenced dance style music are also included, their own influences are not. Some arrows also seem to stop at a void. However, the map still does demonstrate how the birth place of a genre often does not correspond the location where it eventually gained most popularity.
